He praised Greenland Nagaland for its efforts in keeping Nagaland’s environment pristine and called for the expansion of its initiatives to other districts. He highlighted that while Nagaland’s pollution levels are relatively lower compared to other states, the influx of condemned vehicles from outside and the growing number of privately owned vehicles are contributing to congestion and pollution. Sukhalu suggested that Greenland Nagaland explore partnerships with other districts and private parties to speed up the process of extending their environmental initiatives state-wide.

Sukhalu also mentioned that the state government has formed a committee, chaired by the Chief Minister, to develop innovative schemes for environmental sustainability. Additionally, the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) has proposed purchasing buses to transport tourists during the Hornbill Festival. He recommended that Greenland Nagaland collaborate with the state Tourism department to introduce green buses as part of this initiative.

He said that Tourism in Nagaland is growing steadily, particularly in districts like Kohima, Wokha, and Dimapur and that the government, along with the Tourism Department, has ensured that our tourist guides are well-trained and that the best facilities are provided for visitors. He noted that the youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow and stressed the importance of their involvement in continuing the efforts started by the current generation.

Concluding his speech, Sukhalu praised the natural beauty of Nagaland and assured that while development might not happen overnight, the government is doing its best to provide infrastructure and foster progress. He also congratulated Greenland Nagaland on its initiatives and urged them to expand their efforts to other districts as soon as possible.

Dr. Swaraj Mukherjee, Secretary of Greenland Nagaland, delivered the keynote address, wherein he discussed the organization’s vision for integrating modern technology into Nagaland’s tourism sector. This initiative marks the introduction of the first electric bus in the entire North-East region, and the vehicle has been produced by Tri Electric, a Chennai-based company.

He said that the bus is equipped with a public address (PA) system and features space for a tourist guide, with  six doors—three on each side- which  is designed to offer passengers a better view of the surroundings, making It ideal for sightseeing. Dr. Mukherjee highlighted that the bus is intended to be affiliated with the state’s tourism sector, and has plans to expand the fleet across all 16 districts of Nagaland.

He said that initially, these buses will be reserved for tourists, but indicated that if the government agrees, the buses may be made available for public transportation in the future.

Dr. Longri Jamir, President of Greenland Nagaland, emphasized the organization’s commitment to promoting Nagaland as a leading green tourism destination during his presidential address at the launch of the state’s first electric tourist bus.  Jamir highlighted the alignment of the electric vehicle initiative with Greenland Nagaland’s broader mission of fostering eco-conscious travel experiences throughout the state.

He invited both state and private investors to join the movement, underscoring the economic potential of green tourism in Nagaland. Jamir said that this initiative will create substantial employment opportunities for the youth, with plans to open agencies in each district. He also encouraged public participation and suggestions to further strengthen the organization’s green tourism efforts.

The electric buses, which aim to transport tourists to even the remotest parts of Nagaland, are expected to play a pivotal role in developing sustainable travel infrastructure.  Jamir expressed optimism about the potential for green tourism to boost the state’s economy, adding, that together, we will build our state’s economy while preserving our natural beauty.
